Goalsetter Basketball System Chosen for National Dunk Competition
Contest/System to Debut in Des Moines

2008 DunkmanSully, Iowa - Feb. 1, 2008 -- Basketball players across the country will vie for a new world slam dunk record on a specially constructed basketball hoop that will debut in Des Moines on February 2.

Engineers at Sully, Iowa-based Goalsetter Systems have modified the ultimate basketball system for the 2008 Dunkman of the Year contest hosted by NBA ledgend Shaquille O'Neal. The contest will pit basketball players against on another in an effort to dunk a basketball from the greatest vertical leap.

The Goalsetter MVP Basketball System built for the contest is capable of elevating the rim to a height of 13 feet. Transported in a “tricked – out” fully customized truck with tons of features, the Goalsetter MVP will visit contest venues in New Orleans, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Miami. Prior to being set up on the Dunk Truck, the system will stop at Rainbow Play Systems of Iowa on Urbandale Drive just north of Douglas Ave., where Des Moines area players can show their best dunk techniques from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, February 2.

“We want to offer central Iowa players the chance to show their skills on the same system that will host the highest flyers in the country,” says April Woods, Goalsetter marketing director.

Goalsetter has already earned its stripes in slam dunk competitions. The world record for a 12-foot vertical leap slam dunk was set on a Goalsetter System by the Harlem Globtrotters’ Michael Wilson during the Final Four of the 2000 NCAA Basketball Tournament.

The Signature Series Model MVP hoop and backboard chosen for this year’s contest features a 42-by-72-inch acrylic competition backboard. A 6-inch offset pole design assures maximum pole strength while minimizing movement during impact or in windy conditions.

For systems built for normal residential or institutional installations, an internal height adjustment mechanism allows the user to easily set the hoop and backboard anywhere from 6 feet to 10 feet above ground. The backboard can be made either with ¾-inch thick tempered glass or acrylic.

Prior to the competition, Goalsetter MVP systems also will be permanently installed in New York City’s famed Rucker Park. The park is considered the nation’s premier public basketball venue. It has served as a proving ground for some of the nation’s top professional and amateur basketball players.

Goalsetter Systems, Inc., located in Sully, Iowa, is recognized by the nation's top NBA, college, and high school coaches and players as a leader in the residential basketball system industry.
